There’s no doubt that the Treasure Valley boasts an abundance of gems, but as we all know, it’s the little things that matter most. When you are out and about running errands with your loved ones, do you ever get an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude for the state in which you were born and raised, or relocated to years ago? It feels like we all have been there catching ourselves on a thought, “And this is WHY Idaho is so amazing!”
Following are the top three little things that are sure to bring joy to anyone’s quality of life:
Bogus Basin
Just sixteen miles from Boise City Limits is a ski resort that has much to offer. With seven chair lifts, including three high-speed quads, Bogus is comprised of 2,600 skiable acres. Cross country skiing takes place on 23 miles of Nordic trails and three terrain parks are scattered throughout the resort. On the backside you will find a little snack-shack jamming great tunes, offering up tacos, snacks and beer. Sipping a beer in the middle of your day trip in the gorgeous mountains of Idaho amongst the exhilarating blue sky – what more could you want?! No, really?
During the winter months, Bogus Basin offers horse driven sleigh rides o’er the snowy trails to a yurt where delicious food, drink and fun is had by all. Bogus is also a major summer attraction offering hiking, mountain biking, and a disc golf course! Bogus Basin makes for a great family outing anytime during the year. Rising above the city limits into the mountain crisp air is an experience that is easy on the pocketbook and refreshing to the soul.
TreeFort
TreeFort is a five-day indie rock festival held at various venues in downtown Boise. In 2016, more than 400 bands completed the lineup. During TreeFort, the city of Boise is sporting the festivals wristband, with 25% of attendees being out-of-towners. Tree Fort has expanded to now include YogaFort, AleFort, HackFort, ComedyFort, SkateFort, FilmFort, FoodFort, KidFort, and StoryFort.
TreeFort is put on by a group of over 600 volunteers who always come together with the same vision – Boise music scene is ready to develop and be a force on its own two feet!
To sum it up, as quoted from TreeForts wiki page, “Treefort has been called “the west’s best SXSW alternative” and “Boise’s preeminent artistic, cultural and musical happening” which has “morphed from quirky music festival to consuming community event.” It has also been characterized as having become a “nationally renowned gathering just by maintaining its personable close-knit vibe” and a “music lover’s joyous mayhem” which showcases the soul of Boise.
The People
Last but certainly not least on our little list is The People. It doesn’t take long to spend some time in public before a tourist proclaims, “the people are so nice!”
Here you can expect to hear a stranger offer a compliment, provide assistance with the door, “pay it forward” by footing the bill on your dinner check, or allowing you to squeeze over to the other lane in what we consider to be rush hour traffic. The community comes together in times of need and is friendly and loving on the day-to-day basis. People smile and wave and offer a “hello.”
The kindness and hospitality in Boise sets a standard for the rest of the world, and even though we are growing, this attribute is preserved and even contagious to re-locators from around the globe!
This completes our short list of charming characteristics the Treasure Valley provides. It wouldn’t take long to come up with 100, but for now we will leave it at this. Feel free to comment and let us know what your favorite things are about the Boise-area that ring true to “it’s the simple things in life…” and share this post with your friends and loved ones! Let’s show our amazing state some extra love today! Are you down for this?
